Priority analysis for appropriate basin-based wastewater management using SMI and NSMI indez in Upper Citarum River Basin, West Java, Indonesia
Due to limitation and concern over quantity of analysis and associated cost required in wastewater management, a priority analysis to determine a relative importance of locations in the Upper Citarum River Basin (UCRB), West Java, Indonesia is highly required. The study provides a management tool to inform the regulatory agency the condition of sub basins, which are compared to each other to support management action in UCRB. The index is composed of general and specified index including structural and non-structural measures (SMI and NSMI) index, which can be used to identify and compare the need for structural and non-structural measures as a support for basin-based wastewater management (BBWM). Each sub-basin is assessed through the score involving several elements such as urbanization growth, land use characteristic, and pollutant load. The results show that Cikapundung Sub-basin is the highest priority area in Upper Citarum River Basin and has shown an indication for a high demand for introducing the BBWM system.
