Trend in asian river restoration and development of international network for technical information ezchange

Public interest in river restoration has grown in many parts of the world in recent years. At the nature restoration session of the Fourth World Water Forum held in March, 2006, the representatives of the participating countries publicly agreed on the necessity of the establishment of the international information and human exchange network, and organizations from Japan, China and South Korea established the Asian River Restoration Network (ARRN) in November, 2006. This paper reviews the trends in river environment restoration in Asia that have come to be known through the network, and introduces ARRN activities since its establishment and future plans for further international networking.
