Land Suitability Assessment of Shahrekord University Enclosure Using GIS and Multi-criteria Evaluation Techniques
Geographic Information Systems have unique strength for modeling, logical and algebraic operations which are required for land evaluation. To evaluate a certain land for a specific land use one needs a technique to study several criteria which is called modeling or multi-criteria evaluation (MCE).In MCE decision making and evaluation are based on the criteria. The criteria fire selected and combined according to the roles of MCE. The objective of this study was using MCE techniques for determination the suitability of shahrekord University campus soils for irrigated wheat. The GIS database of the area was constructed using climatic, morphometric and soil spatial and attributed data.By consulting soil and agronomy experts involved criteria were determined and ranked using Sattys model (1980). A pairwise comparison matrix was constructed and the eriterias weights were determined. The calculated consistency index was in range and acceptable. Several linear funetious were applied for standardization of values of thematic maps or criteria.By calculating the weights and using weighted linear combination(WLC) approach a suitability map for irrigated wheat was prepared. The resulted suitability map is continuous and classification of this map needs expert knowledge. to evaluate MCE map we compared it with the suitability maps derived from simple or parametric approaches. The results indicate that soil depth and gravel content are major limiting factors and that high ranking areas on MCE map mostly correspond to moderately suitable areas.
