The Relationship of Amphibian Climbing Ability and Ecoloqical Engineering Design
The construction of concrete banks has become a serious threat to waterfront and affects many species, including amphibians.Currently, there are no design solutions based on solid scientific grounds existing for remediation. In this research, seven species of frogs ale selected and their habitats and behavioral characteristics assessed to better manage waterfront. This study evaluated their motility on five appropriate bank slopes, and documented the relationship between a species climbing abilities, the surface substrates of banks, and seasonal variations in weather conditions. The results showed that, even species in the same family or with similar body size differ in their behavioral performance. The experimental results of this study can serve as reference for technicians in future engineering of waterfront, in order to promote amphibian conservation.
