A NOVEL NETWORK-ADAPTIVE BUFFERING MECHANISM FOR VIDEO STREAMING BASED ON FEEDBACK
In order to provide high playback quality, a novel network-adaptive buffering mechanism for video streaming based on feedback is proposed. The mechanism can retransmit the error/lost frames selectively according to current network status and the importance of frames which is wrapped in feedback information. After that, the error/lost frames due to retransmission failure in buffer are recovered to improve the playback quality. In addition, the mechanism is network-adaptive, which is able to adjust the buffer size dynamically based on the network status. This mechanism is confirmed by simulations and experiments in WLAN and CDMA1X network.
