CONJUGATED POLYMER PHOTOVOLTAIC MATERIALS WITH CONJUGATED SIDE CHAINS

Polymer solar cells (PSCs) have attracted much attention recently because of its easy fabrication, light weight, low cost and possibility to make flexible devicesl. But at present, the power conversion efficiency of the PSCs is low in comparison with the silicon-based solar cells, due to the lower charge carrier mobility of the conjugated polymers and the mismatch of their absorption spectra with solar spectrum. In order to improve the photovoltaic properties of the conjugated polymers, lower bandgap conjugated polymers with red-shifted absorption spectra were synthesized. But the absorption of the conjugated polymers reported in literatures is still not wide enough in comparison with the solar spectrum. In this presentation, we report a series of polythiophene (PT) and poly (thienylene vinylene) (PTV) derivatives (see Figure 1) with conjugated side chains2-6 and crosslinking PT derivatives with conjugated bridges.79 The UV-vis absorption spectra of the side-chain conjugated polymers red-shifted and broadened, and the hole mobility of the polymers improved obviously.
