CONFORMATION AND ORIENTATION CHANGES OF PET FILMS DURING DEFORMATION AND RELAXATION BY POLARIZATION MODULATION FTIR SPECTROSCOPY
Introduction Studies on molecular orientation and conformation under in various conditions of deformation, relaxation or crystallization are important for a fundamental understanding of the structure and properties of polymer materials, from academic and industrial points of views. In contrast with conventional FTIR, polarization modulation FTIR (PMFTIR) exhibits high dichroism sensitivity and 200 ms time resolution because it uses a photo-elastic modulator to switch the polarization of the infrared radiation from parallel (p) to perpendicular (s) at a high frequency. However, conventional PM-FTIR is limited to measuring molecular orientation and does not provide conformation information.
