EFFECTS OF BRANCH CONTENT ON RING-BANDED SPHERULITIC MORPHOLOGY AND RADIAL SPHERULITIC GROWTH RATE OF BRANCHED POLYETHYLENE
For ethylene/α-olefin copolymers, incorporation of α-olefin comonomers can introduce short-chain branches in backbone chain, which can strongly affect crystallization and melting behaviors of polyethylene (PE). As concluded in a review 1, these copolymers have lower crystallinity, crystallization temperature (Tc) and melting point in contrast to homopolymer. In this study, one high density polyethylene (HDPE) almost with no branches and two ethylene-hexene copolymers, namely, PEH9 and PEH18 containing 8.9 and 17.9 branch points per 1000 backbone carbons, respectively, are selected to investigate the effects of short-chain branch content on the PE crystallization behaviors.
