HYDROGELS WITH HIGH MECHANICAL STRENGTH SYNTHESIZED BY A PRE-IRRADIATION METHOD
Hydrogels with high mechanical strength may find more practical applications, especially in biomedical and industrial areas. In recent years, significant achievements have been made in the fabrication of novel hydrogels with unique microstructures and high mechanical strength.1 Topological (TP) gel2, nanocomposite (NC) gel3 and double-network (DN) gel4 are the first three types of strong hydrogel even made. Malkoch et al synthesized new poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG)-based hydrogel materials by Click chemistry, the hydrogels have well-defined networks and significantly improved mechanical properties.5 A common feature of these hydrogels is that they have energy dissipation mechanisms to slow crack propagation.
