ORDERED STRUCTURES BY DIRECTIONAL FREEZING OF POLYMERS

Fabrication of materials with ordered porous in micrometre sizes is on focus for the wide applications in macromolecular catalyst, adsorption, separations, nanomaterials assembly and biochemistry, especially the porous materials with biocompatibility and decomposability used in tissue engineeringl. In this paper, a generic method for preparation of ordered materials using polymers, nanoparticles or mixtures of these components is described. Directional freezing is used to generate complex structures such as three-dimensional porous structures or two-dimensional oriented surface patterns2. There is not any chemical reaction but a thermal induced phase separation in the process, avoiding by-products or purification procedures.
