ELECTROSPINNING STRUCTURES
An electrified fluid jet is now known to produce a hierarchical set of coils by electrical bending, a wide variety of coils and zigzags by buckling, and a larger and sturdier coil by pendulum-like motion. The electrical bending sequence of coils is produced in flight as an electrified jet bends and elongates on its way to becoming a nanofiber. The buckling coils and zigzags are created by the mechanical forces created as a jet is decelerated as it lands on a collector. The pendulum like motion is guided by electrical forces between the jet arriving at a collector and the charge that is held on the structures already collected.
