STUDY ON THE SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF DEGRADABLE POLY(LACTIC ACID)

The poly(lactic acid)(PLA) is an important green material with good bio-compatibility and biodegradability. The application of PLA as degradable medical materials displays extensive prospects. The melt polycondensation of lactic acid is a simple technological process.In our works, the PLA was synthesized by this method. Then the processing parameters and the degradation property were investigated. The PLA is in the state of the solid powder and shows white color. From FT-IR(see Fig.l), it is analyzed that 1755 cm-1 is stretch vibration of >C=O, 1089 cm1, 1130 cm-1 and 1183 cm-1 are stretch vibration of C-O-, which indicate the existence of the ester group. The weak peaks between 2850 and 2996 cm-1 should be stretch of C-H, -C-H stretch of methyne generates weak peak near 2880 cm-1, peak near 1455 cm-1 should be bending vibration of-CH3, distinctive peaks of methane lie in the range between 1360 and 1390 cm-1. The product should be PLA according to the main functional groups from FT-IR spectrum.
