ELECTROCHROMIC PROPERTIES BASED ON OLIGOTHIOPHENE DERIVATIVES

Electrochromism is a phenomenon where a material shows reversible and visible change in color that is associated with an electrochemically induced oxidation-reduction reaction. Electrochromic devices have received a great deal of attention for potential applications to display, smart windows, shutters, etc. 1-2. Smart windows and large-area display devices, based on reversibly colored electrochromic materials, have become the subject of many studies around the world because of their potential applications in buildings and automobiles. During the last two decades, conducting polymers have received increasing attention because of the possibility of controlling their electrical conductivity between an insulating and a conducting state. Recently, much research has revealed that polythiophene derivatives are promising electrochromic material 3-5. However, there have been few studies of oligothiophene derivatives in contrast to extensive studies of polythiophene derivatives electrochromic material.
