MODELING ON THE INTERFACIAL DYNAMICS IN MULTI-COMPONENTS FLUIDS

The interfacial morphology between immiscible fluids has received much attention due to its importance in the commercial polymer blends and emulsions. Many theoretical works. both Theological constitutive theories1 and numerical methods2, have been done in this area to establish the relationship between the morphology evolution and the flow field. For example, a series ot rhheological models have been suggested to describe the morphology and rheology of emulsions in both weak flow and strong flow field, for both Newtonian and viscoelastic component fluids However, in real applications, immiscible fluids are often compatibilized by compatibilizers ot surfactants. Surfactants can be adsorbed on or desorbed from the interface, which can be described by the adsorption kinetics. Moreover, the interfacial properties, such as the interfacial tension and the interfacial thickness, change with the adsorption of surfactant. Typically, the interfacial tension decreases with the increase of adsorbed surfactant. In addition, the surfactant will transport and redistribute over the interface with the deformation of the interface in a flow field, which results in a non-equilibrium state of interfacial energy and induce a so-called Marangoni forces on the interface. Such complex behaviors of surfactant on the interface have been described clearly in a sharp interface model3, which is the basis of many simulations on the interfacial dynamics by boundary integral method.
