IS THERE ANY ERROR IN THE STATISTIC THEORY OF THE RUBBER ELASTICITY?
High elasticity and viscoelasticity are most prominent mechanical properties of polymer materials. Polymer scientists have made great efforts to develop the high elasticity theory. In the education system of polymer physics, the theory of high elasticity has been continuously using the classical statistic theory of conformation entropy for rubber elasticity1. However, there is a great difference of the theoretical equation from the practical data and the theoretical curve of stress vs. strain can approximately fit the practical curve only as the extension ratio beneath 1.5 (Fig.1). A series of correction equations has been developed to overcome this problem, but it is not perfect yet.
