A NONLINEAR ANALYSIS METHOD FOR ESTIMATING PERFORMANCE BEHAVIOR OF RC COLUMNS
Performance-based design method is considered to be an international advanced seismic design idea in structural design. An important part of performancebased analysis is the nonlinear analysis for structure components. Therefore, a nonlinear analysis method which could appropriately estimate the performance behavior of components is needed. In this paper, a plastic-hinge-based method is put forward, by which the columns from a full scale frame experiment were simulated. The comparison between the analysis and the experimental results indicates that the full range of the column responses under cyclic loading can be modeled accurately with appropriate parameters and hysteretic rules, and the characters that defined the backbone curve of the plastic-hinge model can be calculated analytically by empirical and semi-empirical equations. It is shown that the method presented here can estimate the performance behavior of RC columns effectively and be suitable for masses of component analysis.
