THE EFFECTIVE LENGTH OF COMPRESSIVE CHORD MEMBERS IN STEEL TRUSS STRUCTURE
When calculating the effective length of compressive chord members in the steel trass structures, the joints can not be considered as hinged or fixed, because the compressive chord members of the steel truss are restrained by the adjacent chord members. Base on reasonable hypothesis, the characteristic equations of compressive chord members in steel truss structure are derived by considering the effect of the internal force ratio of adjacent chord members, and the effective length coefficient of compressive chord members are obtained. Results show that effects of the internal force ratio of adjacent chord members on the effective length of compressive chord members are prominent. When considering the effects of the internal force ratio of adjacent chord members, the effective length coefficient of compressive chord members are decreased. The simplified formula of the effective length coefficient of compressive chord members is given for engineering applications.
