STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF GUANGZHOU PANYU HOLIDAY HOTEL
The project is a 72m high hotel building, with floor area of 20,000m2, located in area of seismic intensity of degree 7. Despite of its scale, the structure is unusual and complex, with rectangle column grid below 5th floor and oblique column grid beyond 5th floor. Some of the problems associated with it were difficult. This paper sets out to give a brief description of the project, solutions to major challenges in the structural design process. It demonstrates in some details the transform system, the steel braces provided in lower floors as the major measure of torsion resistance, dampers connected to steel braces to reduce seismic effect, and eventually SRC structure as the substitute of dampers.
