EXPERIMENT ON L-SHAPE CFT STUB COLUMNS WITH BINDING BARS SUBJECTED TO ECCENTRIC COMPRESSION

It is an effective method to improve the mechanical behavior of special-shape concrete-filled steel tubular columns by setting binding bars in the middle positions of steel plates which constrain outer convex of the steel plates. A total of 8 L-shape concrete-filled steel tubular (L-CFT) stub columns with binding bars subjected to eccentric compression were tested. The influences of the setting of binding bars, load eccentricity ratios and load angles on behavior of L-CFT stub columns with binding bars are investigated. The experimental results indicate that by setting the binding bars the buckling mode of the steel plates is changed, the local buckling of the steel plates is delayed, and the bearing capacity and ductility of eccentric-loaded specimens are improved with decrease of space between binding bars. Local buckling of steel plates of specimens at load angle 0° and 180°occurred after reaching bearing capacity, while those at load angle 315°occurred before that, and the bearing capacity of specimens at load angle 315° is smaller.
