INVESTIGATION ON SEISMIC STRENGTHENING PLANS OF GUANG MINARET IN HUAISHENG MOSQUE

The intention of this paper was to find out a seismic strengthening plan for Guang Minaret in Huaisheng Mosque. The seismic response of Guang minaret was calculated and results showed that the minaret cannot resist an earthquake and it needed seismic strengthening. As the minaret is among the important historical monuments under special preservation of China and the reinforcement mustnt disfeature it, many conventional strengthening methods were infeasible. Shape memory alloy (SMA) dampers were applied to strengthen the minaret in this paper. The seismic response of Guang Minaret with different SMA dampers amount were calculated. According to the calculating results, the most effective reinforce plan was chosen for Guang Minaret in Huaisheng Mosque.
