PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON FLEXURAL BEHAVIORS OF PHC TUBULAR PILES
Flexural behavior is one of the qualifying indexes of a pre-stressed high strength concrete (PHC) tubular pile. In this paper, the experimental aims, specimen specifications and test program of the research project are firstly introduced. Then the experimental observations for the developing patterns of normal cracks and the flexural deformation of the specimens under one pointed load or two pointed loads are described in detail. The crack positions, the crack patterns, the crack quantities and the flexural deformation of tubular piles are analyzed. Finally, the flexural behaviors of PHC tubular piles are also summarized. The experimental results show that the measured values of the cracking moments of specimens are 29.6%~69.2% bigger than the demanded values given by GB13476 Standard; and the measured ultimate failure moments of specimens are 29.7%~52.9% bigger than the demanded values. The approaches for estimation of cracking and ultimate moments of tubular piles can not match the experimental results. Therefore, further studies are necessary to revise the relevant standards in the future.
