3D FE ANALYSIS OF ASPHALT PAVEMEMT RUTTING BASED ON CREEP MODEL

Three-dimensional finite element analysis of asphalt pavement structure can be carried out using the linear Drucker-Prager creep model which can successfully describe the creep properties of asphalt mixtures. Results of the FE studies show that the rutting shape is W-type; the rutting depth increases with load repetitions; and the increasing rate is faster at initial period and slower at later period. Vertical displacement is mainly generated in the pavement surface, larger values is maintained at the scope of 0~12cm under pavement surface. Extreme total strain, creep strain and plastic strain of asphalt pavement surface appear at the scope of 6~12cm under pavement in the tire center, which locates generally in the middle-asphalt pavement surface. So that materials of middle-asphalt pavement surface must possess good anti-deformation performance.
