A MULTI-POINT ELASTIC WAVE EXCITATION AND RECEPTION METHOD FOR DAMAGE DETECTION - NUMERICAL VERIFICATION
A multi-point elastic wave excitation and reception method is introduced to detect damages (crack and deterioration). This method does not require any baseline signal to distinguish the damages although there is a certain limitation for its application. For verification of the method, explicit dynamic analyses using finite element software, ANSYS LSDYNA, were carried out. The target structures are a 3-dimensional concrete beam with non-reflecting boundary conditions and 2-D plane adhesively-bonded single lap aluminum joint. It is shown that crack and deterioration were successfully detected and their severities were well quantified through the numerical simulations. The introduced baseline-free elastic wave method is useful for developing a nondestructive testing scheme.
