RC FRAME-SHEAR WALL STRUCTURES WITH PARTIAL COLUMNS SLIDING AT UPPER ENDS AND WITH SOME BEAMS CONSIDERING CATENARY ACTION
A new kind of RC frame-shear wall structures with partial columns sliding at upper ends is proposed in this paper, and the corresponding design procedures considering catenary action of frame beams are suggested. Elastic-plastic analyses are conducted for both the proposed structures and conventional frameshear wall structures, and their construction costs and earthquake responses are compared. Simulation results show that: (a) Although the construction cost of the proposed structures is a little higher than that of the conventional frame-shear wall structures, the anti-collapse capacity of the proposed structures is better than that of the conventional structures; and (b) The incremental percentages of quantities of concrete and steel for the proposed structure considering catenary action are, respectively, 13 percentages and 7 percentages less than those neglecting the catenary action. The vertical load bearing capacities of the proposed structure under strong earthquake can be maintained, which ensure No collapse under strong earthquake .
