APPLIED RESEARCH ON SEISMIC PERFORMANCE- BASED DESIGN AND SEISMIC ISOLATION STRUCTURE OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN WENCHUAN EARTHQUAKE
In Wenchuan earthquake, the collapses of school buildings have caused enormous life and property loss. How to improve the seismic performance of school building has become the first issue that needs to be considered in aid project design after disaster. Three level seismic fortification standard adopted by the present seismic code of building structure is not enough for school buildings to provide protection of life safety under strong earthquake. In this paper, according to the aid project design, Life Safety in Rare Earthquake is used as the seismic performance design standard of school buildings, i.e. it should be in the elastic state in the basic earthquake and avoid structural and nonstructural components damage badly, moreover, to ensure life safety, reduce property loss, and be recovered easily after disaster. The main design measures are given, including: use regular form frame or frame-wall structure, rubber isolation support, use light-gauge steel partition wall as infill wall in frame and reinforce seismic measures of nonstructural components.
