NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TYPHOON AND WIND FIELD IN XIAMEN REGION
The extreme wind speed and the basic wind pressure are necessary for structural wind resistance design at coastal areas. Since the actual observation data of typhoon-induced wind are insufficient, the methods of numerical simulation of typhoon are commonly used to obtain the extreme wind speed. In this paper, Yan Meng wind field model is introduced to simulate typhoons in Xiamen region. With the observation data of Typhoon Wilda (T7301) and Typhoon Dan (T9914), numerical calculation results are compared with the observation data to certify the applicability of the numerical model for Xiamen region. In Yan Meng model, the Holland parameter B determines the pressure distribution and affects the wind field. A method is presented to determine the proper value for parameter B. The equivalent roughness length zo is a comprehensive concept proposed in Yan Meng model to express the topographical effect and terrain roughness. Different values of zo are adopted to illuminate its effect on wind speed distribution. Furthermore, the relationship between the equivalent roughness length zo and the wind direction is described according to the track records of the above two typhoons and the value of zo for Xiamen is discussed to obtain the best value in Xiamen region.
