WIND FIELD MEASUREMENT AND COHERENCE ANALYSIS OF TYPHOON WIPHA

This paper presents multi-points wind field measurements over typical country terrain and spatial coherence analysis of Typhoon Wipha. The wind speed data were measured from a wind observation array composed of ten sonic anemometers installed on one 47-meter high transmission tower and three observation towers with height of 20-meter at a country region in east China. Simultaneous wind speed at four points along a transmission line can be recorded with a range of 43-meter high and 240-meter wide. Co-spectrum is the description of coherence of two spatial points and firstly simple exponential format and modified exponential format of normalized co-spectrum are reviewed. Measured normalized cospectrum and the two expressions are compared and identified values of vertical and horizontal decay factors in the two formats are also presented. The results show that the modified exponential format possesses a better property for describing the measured co-spectrum in whole frequency range especially at low frequencies. Another advantage of modified format is the small variability of the decay factor at different separations. The results presented in this paper are expected to be as references in selecting the format of normalized cospectrum and determining the vertical and horizontal decay factors in wind field simulation and in design procedure of long span structures.
