FIRE PROTECTION OF COMPUTER ROOM WITH WATER MIST SYSTEMS
This paper presents an investigation of performance for a combined fire detection and zoned water mist fire suppression system. Full scale tests were conducted to identify the basic design requirements for a multi-zone water mist suppression system to protect a computer room underfloor, individual cabinets and computers, arrays of cable trays in the ceiling plenum. Results show that the high pressure water mist does perform well when applied in a total flooding mode in obstructed compartments. Extinguishment was achieved within one minute. Reignition was well prohibited through cooling effect of water mist. It was also noted that very fine sprays (Dv0.5~100microns) were suitable for live electronic equipment areas, provided better control over spread of humidity in the facility, as well as better penetration of grouped cables.
