A NEW SMA DAMPER AND ITS CONTROL EFFECT FOR STRUCTURE UNDER EARTHQUAKE

TiNi shape memory alloy (SMA) wires possess a high damping capacity and can be used for energy absorbing and vibration control. The main research object has turned to develop all kinds of control devices that contain SMA wires members. However, most of them are passive control devices. In this paper, through the analysis of SMA constitutive relation, the relation of SMA elastic modulus and temperature is achieved. An experimental study is completed on the mechanical behavior of shape memory alloy wire. A new SMA passive-adaptive control device, which based on the change in the elastic modulus at different temperature and super-elastics, is designed. The equations of output force and equivalent stiffness are also presented. At last, the simulation analysis on seismic response of three-floor frame at the three states of without control, active control, SMA semiactive control, is carried out. The results show that the SMA passive-adaptive control device can reduce the seismic response of structure effectively, whose control effect is very close to active control. It is verified that the SMA passive-adaptive control device is a good control device for structure.
