STUDY ON RQI FOR ROAD ROUGHNESS EVALUATION AND VEHICLE VELOCITY
The investigation standard for highway pavement is to be improved with the rapidly construction of highway pavement, in which the roughness performance is an important parameter in the pavement quality evaluation. Current industry standard Highway Performance Assessment Standards utilizes Roughness Quality Index (RQI) and International Roughness Index (ISI) to assess the road roughness on a fixed vehicle velocity. In this paper, a new RQI evaluation approach is proposed which contains two variables IRI and velocity. The dynamic responses of a vehicle with various running speed, defined as IRIv, are analyzed and calculated. Moreover, the RQIv can be obtained by the use of Highway Performance Assessment Standards. Analysis result shows that the values of RQIv vary significantly with the change of vehicle velocity. It means that the use of two variables IRI and velocity is more reasonable than that of single index to assess the riding quality.
