EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON TREATING METHOD OF THE HIGH LIQUID LIMIT SOIL WIDENING SUB-GRADE BY LIME AND GEO-GRID
The lime and geo-grid treating method is proposed for the high liquid limit soil(HLLS) widening sub-grade. Through laboratory tests the basic mechanical properties are researched such as of the HLLS, of the HLLS improved by lime and of the HLLS reinforced by geo-grid. Through field tests these are analyzed including of the strain of geo-grid and soil in the bonding interface, the settlement and differential settlement of widening sub-grade. The comparative studies are also finished on the lime and geo-grid treating method, on the only geo-grid treating method and on the common treating method. Some conclusions are drawn from the experimental studies. Firstly, the lime improvement not only can change the graduation of the HLLS, effectively reduce water content and plasticity index, but also can improves significantly the CBR value of the HLLS. Secondly, the geo-grid can increase compressive strength and shear strength of the HLLS. At last, the lime and geo-grid treating method can decrease the strain of soil, and the settlement and differential settlement of widening sub-grade. So the cracking in the bonding interface and the uneven settlement of widening sub-grade are effectively prevented.
