LIFE CYCLE AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT IN MAINTENANCE BY USING RFID
Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is entering more and more sectors of logistics and industries. The specific features of these technologies are also opening significant potentials to improve performance and rationalize processes in the maintenance industry too. This paper presents the state of RFID technology adoption in the German maintenance industry as exemplified by different projects and describes RFID applications in maintenance processes and for maintenance knowledge management. Another emphasis is the management of plant operators and component and equipment suppliers collaboration in this field. Apart from their efforts to standardize processes, data and the usage of information technology, these cross-industry working groups are working to identify potential crosscompany benefits and value added from RFID in maintenance, e.g. through collaborative knowledge management of machine function or load history. This will make it possible in future to devise completely new maintenance processes in companies and with component suppliers and maintenance service providers.
