Equipment reliability–the Key ey to Economic conomic Maintenance aintenance
Reliable equipment contributes to providing a safe and profitable working environment. Safety, risk reduction and quality production are benefits every company needs from maintenance and reliability. Generations who preceded us wanted those benefits and laboured hard to get them. They developed knowledge of what was required to reduce maintenance and improve reliability. As each generation comes of age the need to improve reliability increases. We as maintenance people have developed the knowledge required to keep pushing out the boundary on reliability; however as reliability increase so does the production demand, thereby generating a need for even greater reliability. Equipment is being pushed to the limit in the quest for increased profit at minimum cost. Whether senior managers realise it or not the deliverance of that “minimum cost/maximum profit is dependant on equipment operating safely and being reliablc.
