How to Enable the Effective and Efficient Utilization of Data in CMMS/EAM System through KPI Reports
As the importance of informationization has been recognized by more and more enterprises, business information systems, such as ERP, EAM, CRM and etc., have become an indispensable part in business operation. However, ironically, as some enterprises are speeding up their informationization development, they suddenly find out that theyve been faced with the problem of ‘information explosion, drowned in the ocean of ‘littered data. Therefore, the key to the successful application of information system lies in the effective utilization of information. In terms of plant maintenance management, its believed that the same problem exists. Over the period during which the CMMS/EAM system is being used, a large amount of maintenance-related data will be accumulated. However, if a mechanism cannot be established which effectively utilizes the accumulated data to evaluate the plant maintenance performance, the CMMS/EAM system will be demoted to a merely execution tool and contribute very little to the continuous improvement in plant asset management. In this paper, the focus is placed on how to effectively utilize the large amount of data accumulated over time through KPI reports to enable the closed-loop maintenance management via CMMS/EAM. Two stages in KPI system implementation are discussed in detail in the context of maintenance management: KPI report system Design; Training and Tutoring. Examples are given to illustrate the key points in each stage. Its stressed that the design of the KPI report system must be based on the users specific needs and shall feature a multi-level and multi-dimension structure, and the development of the KPI report system should be application-oriented.
