APPLICATION OF SNAKE MODEL IN MEDICAL IMAGE SEGMENTATION

Image Segmentation based on Snake model is one of the focuses in the field of image processing in recent years.The Snake model integrates the characteristics of the lower layer of images and the prior knowledge of the upper layer.It can effectively implement medical image segmentation for unique medical images using the restriction of the lower layer of images to the prior knowledge of the upper layer.In this paper,basic principles of Snake model, drawbacks existing of Snake model,improved algorithms and evolving models based on Snake model are studied in depth.Additionally, applied methods of Snake model in medical image segmentation,such as cardiac image segmentation,cell image segmentation,brain image segmentation,vascular image segmentation and so on, are introduced.Based on the analysis of the traditional sake models defect,systematic discussion is made to improve the various revised models.A summary for the application of the snake model and its revised model in typical medical image segmentation is made.
