A Study of Safety Design Status of High Occupancy Public Building Areas in Changsha, China

The study targets a dense population shopping center for on the spot inquiry and investigation, as well as statistics and design analysis, according to security system theory, the essential factors which influence the safe design are summarized. (1) Characteristics of security incidents in high occupied commercial buildings: (a) Due to dense population, mass estate and complex circumambience, if accidents take place, there would be severe consequences coming around, such as failed evacuation and property damages, to avoid these conditions makes the prevention and control project much more significant and complex; (b) Accidents eaused by human happen more frequently and some times go along with natural disasters. The security risks of public buildings involve not only geological disasters, meteorological disasters, structural reliability, but also human behavior; (e) Accidents usually happen abruptly and in chain. (2) Hidden internal wiring, highly-utilized electrical equipment, and high occupancy, the flammable decoration materials mainly consist of potential safety risks of high-rise buildings.
