Comparison of Thermal Storage Air Conditioning for High-rise Buildings in Typical Cities of Different Climatic Zones
Since the turn of the 21st century, tall buildings with growing heights, increasingly complicated shapes and innovative structural systems have been built worldwide. The comfort, amenity and sustainability of these building have been the focus of world attention. The application of central air conditioning system with thermal storage refrigeration in high-rise civil buildings has gradually increased in recent years. Due to the large difference between residential buildings and commercial buildings, characteristics such as the cooling load in summer and storage method must be considered in the design of air conditioning systems. Taking a existing building for example, the characteristics of thermal storage air conditioning in tall buildings were introduced. The initial investment and operating cost of thermal stotage central air conditioning were compared with normal central air conditioning system in typical cities of differernt climatic zones, respectively. Dynamic economical assessment was established. Results show that thermal storage air conditioning in high-rise buildings would not always be economical in different cities, and the thermal storage method selected would significantly impact on them. Thermal storage air conditionging could be adopted if the area of the refrigerating unit room is limited and the cold supply period is long in summer. On the condition that the commercial area under the constructions is big enough, chilled water thermal storage air conditioning could be taken in account.
