Energy Performance Evaluation of an Air-Conditioning System in a Large Scale Office Building by Commissioning

With the premise of supplying comfortable and healthy environments in buildings, minimization of energy consumption of building energy systems is an important and urgent objective of mankind. Especially, the large amount of energy consumption of large scale office buildings is becoming a severe and troublesome problem in a city. Due to the vast amount of energy consumption of air-conditioning systems within large scale office building, the reasonable design, optimal operation and efficient management of air-conditioning systems are inevitable and necessary to the reduction of the total social energy consumption. Commissioning is recognized as an important process needed for design, construction, operation and maintenance of HVAC systems. Research on deviation of systematic index from the optimal HVAC system operation by commissioning is useful for the analysis of system characteristics and the improvement of system design and operation. In this paper, the performance of an air-conditioning system within a certain large scale office building is diagnosed and evaluated according to the concept of Deviation of Systematic Index. With this concept and corresponding approaches, airconditioning system can be designed, diagnosed, retrofitted and optimized in a correct or reasonable way. This kind of evaluation work can also be called the commissioning of the airconditioning system. Our work can be used as references and improvement guidelines to designers and technicians for systematic design, operation, maintenance and retrofit.
