Numerical Simulation of VOCs Distribution with an Air Cleaner in a Classroom

Air cleaner is one of the most effective and widely used methods to improve indoor air quality. The purpose of this work is to present a study of the effect of different positions with an air cleaner on concentrations distribution of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation is conducted to predict the performance of air cleaner. The commercial software FLUENT 6 was used to solve the continuity, momentum, concentration and turbulence equations. The flow is assumed to be steady and a transient VOCs source is considered. The simulating object is a classroom used for a long time, with one door in one side and one window in the other side. The air cleaner is fixed at three different positions. The same ventilation strategy is ensured. Therefore, the position of the air cleaner should depend on the room structure and the retention time of the occupants at the different positions.
