Effect of Air Outflow Angle of a Wall-Mounted Air-conditioner on the Indoor Thermal Environment

The air-conditioner syndrome and energy problems have caught more and more public attention in recent years. Therefore, it is very important to research the thermal characteristics and running performance of wall mounted air-conditioners widely-used in China in recent decades. The indoor thermal characteristics and indoor thermal comfort with wall mounted air-conditioners have been studied at different air outflow angles in cooling mode. The temperature distribution is detected by a self-made temperature acquisition system. The experiment results show that the temperature field is affected greatly by the angle of the air outflow. According to the experiment result, when air outflow angle is about 105~relative to the positive direction of vertical axis, the temperatures of the whole room decrease very fast and the temperature differences between contiguous layers are the least, meanwhile, the human thermal feeling is quite fine with a high degree of indoor thermal comfort. In addition, the upper part of the room is hotter while the lower is cooler, presenting a stratification phenomenon. Also, simulations of case B and case C have been carried out, which show the distribution of flow and temperature field clearly. The simulation results perfectly agree with those of the experiments, finally proving the validity of this model.
