Classification of the Indoor Thermal Quality: Results from a Field Campaign
This paper deals with the classification of the indoor thermal quality (ITQ) in existing buildings. Thermal quality is one of the main aspects determining the indoor environmental quality (IEQ). The ITQ classification represents a synthetic evaluation, allowing a comparison between different environments or buildings. Furthermore this information can be easily coupled to the energy certification of a building. An objective classification method for existing buildings is introduced, based on long-term monitoring of the indoor thermal environment. The aim of this paper is to obtain ITQ categories for the examined environments, on the basis of the measured data. Then the results of the objective classification are compared with the corresponding subjective responses. This comparison is aimed at highlighting similarities and discrepancies with reference to the objective classification method and to point out additional information deriving from the subjective approach. Both an objective survey, based on long term measurements, and a subjective survey, based on specific questionnaires, were carried out in a case study building.
