The Subjective Questionnaire Survey and Objective Measurement of Main Pollutions Ezisting in Residential Environments, China

With the rapid economic development and the rising standard of living in China, residential refurbishment has become fashionable in Xian, an ancient and capital city of the Shaanxi province in the middle China. However, the indoor air pollution caused by refurbishment increasingly becomes a health and environmental concern. In residential buildings, the main pollutants consist of HCOH, PM10 and TVOC. Some physical parameters, for example, temperature, relative humidity, atmosphere pressure and air velocity also have an impact on occupants physical presence. Based on the house conditions in Xian, a subjective questionnaire survey was carried out together with the objective measurement of some typical residential buildings in this city. From the survey results, the types of pollutions are identified in these buildings. The evaluation and analysis of subjective and objective aspects are both presented in this paper. The sources of pollution are analyzed, and the pollution status is also assessed. This paper shows the first-hand data about pollution status in residential buildings in Xian and can be helpful for improving indoor air quality in Xian or other cities in China.
