Influence of Window Distribution on Ventilation Effect in High-Rise Residential Buildings with a Light Well

Well-known that light wells in buildings were able to use natural ventilation and lighting, and they had two natural appearance of chimney effect and greenhouse effect, so they were not only able to heating and cooling, but good for improving indoor air environment, reducing energy consumption and protecting ecoenvironment. Thus nowadays light wells in high-rise residential buildings have been more and more concerned because of their full use of natural energy and better environment for haman health. In order to study thermal environment, airflow distribution, and effect of cooling and ventilation in indoor and light well space, when the number and location of open windows in such building were changed, FLUENT was applied to simulate a 10-storey residential building with light well for calculating temperature and velocity distribution of indoor and light well space in many condition. The results of every condition were compared and analyzed to find out the principle of windows layout in similar buildings, even to guide us to improved design for windows layout in high-rise residential building.
