Active Adaptive Behavior and Energy Saving

This paper provides some results on thermal comfort in a building with double skin facade in winter. Surveyed building is located in Nanjing which is characterized by hot summer and cold winter weather. Field measurements were carried out from Jan 14th to 16th, 2009. Data were obtained by measurements of physical parameters and a questionnaire survey was conducted at the same time in 27 offices considering the orientation and floor factors. The subjective survey involved questions on the demographic information of occupants, health status, environment comfort conditions and acceptance. A total of 150 occupants were investigated and 131 questionnaires were completed. With the detailed clothing insulation and metabolic rate investigation, the predicted mean vote (PMV) was calculated. The results show that low relative humidity is the main reason causing thermal discomfort. And the most annoying discomfort is dry mouth and eye dryness which are aroused by low relative humidity. Female is verified to be more sensitive than male from two aspects. First of all, the overall discomfort value of female is approximately double to the male. The next, the gradient of linear regression model (mean thermal sensation vote vs. operative temperature) indicating thermal sensitivity for female (0.171/℃) is evidently higher than the male (0.097/℃). The double skin facade represents a good noise insulation effect while the glare is still the puzzling. People show the preference to intervene heating and ventilating control which was centrally controlled in this building. Meanwhile, stale air complaints are an interrogative question for the concentration of carbon dioxide and air velocity in all offices is up to the standard.
