Thermal Performance of Double Skin Facade Windows
The double skin facade (DSF) has gained increasing attraction for its building energy saving potential. In this paper we used computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques and numerically simulated the thermal performance of a DSF window and examined the influence of solar radiation. Comparisons between the DSF window and the double glazing window showed that from the energy saving perspective, DSF windows are better only except in winter with solar radiation above certain level. Without a shading device in the cavity, the advantage of the DSF in summer lies in the extra glass pane in blocking the solar radiation rather than ventilation of the cavity.
