SELECTION OF PIPE MATERIALS FOR THE WIMMERA-MALLEE PIPELINE PROJECT
The Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project is replacing one of the largest earthen channel systems in the world with approximately 9000 km of pipelines. By recovering water losses from seepage and evaporation, the pipeline secures the viability of the regions agriculture, its communities and restores flows to severely depleted river and wetland systems. This case study discusses the factors that contributed to the selection of Polyethylene, PVC and Mild Steel as pipe materials for different sections of the network.
