SUSTAINABLE SEWERAGE: THE CHALLENGES TO COME

Sustainable Sewerage: The Challenges to Come This paper highlights the need for a new approach to managing our sewer systems as we move towards an ecological age. It illustrates how we are are in the midst of a transition from grey infrastructure solutions towards a more holistic, systems based methodology and green infrastructure. This change has been driven by wider concerns about how to adapt to climate change and the pressures placed on the sewer system due to population growth. The paper concludes that we need to engage with the plastics community in order to develop innovative solutions in Sustainable Urban Drainage and Surface Water Reduction Strategies to face the challenges of tomorrow.
