Tourism and Mountain Area Development with Focus on Xishui Township of Qilian Mountain
With sustainability and tourism services tightly interwoven together, it is the unique native mountain environment and the local pastoral way of life that are most at stake if a comprehensive, integrated approach to conservation and development is not adopted immediately in Qilian Mountain Natural Reserve (QNR). This situation puts enormous pressure on Xishui Township to do its work well the first time, yet there also is a very strong pressure to demonstrate positive result quickly. Therefore, our paper aims to promote tourism development in conjunction with social-economic of the local pastoral population, including poverty alleviation and wants to find development ways that are good for local economy as well as environmental and cultural protection. Drawing from the analysis on the traditional pastoral society of Xishui Township, we argue that the performance of rural tourism is the best choice and give some suggestions about minimization of negative and maximization of positive impacts on it.
