Fuzzy Multiattribute R&D Project Selection Using Real Options with Trinomial Lattice Approach

Strategic R&D project selection decision is very important in two ways for corporations. First, in many organizations, R&D budget represents huge investment. Second, R&D projects organizational returns are multidimensional in nature and risky in terms of projected outcome. This multidimensional characteristic is handled by a multi-attribute decision making method called fuzzy hierarchical TOPSIS. The economic side of the selection process is handled with real options by fuzzy trinomial lattice solution method because decision maker has to decide whether to carry on the option or exercise it every year. Trinomial lattice method provides much better approximation to the continuous time process.
