The Regional Ecological Risk Assessment of the Rapid Urbanized Area: Case Study on the Shenzhen River-Bay Watershed

With the rapid urbanization in the world, the urban ecosystems are under multiple great pressures. This paper takes the Shenzhen River-Bay Area as the case study, the main risk sources in this area are identified and a comprehensive risk assessment indices system is established. Based on the Pressure-Effect-Social Response (PESR) theory, the risk indices for each sub-ecosystem are calculated. The risk grading and the potential ecological hazards for the Shenzhen River-Bay area could be determined finally. The results of this study could provide the scientific basis for risk prevention management in the rapid urbanized regions.
